Vietnam imports scrap steel mainly from Japan, Hongkong (China) and the United States. Three main mayors, accounting for 63.2% of total imports, Japan accounted for the largest share of 53.7%, followed by Hong Kong (China) 24.4% and United States 21.7%.

In the Japanese market, although the main import market, in the first 9 months of this year, steel scrap imported from this market decreased both quantity and value over the same period, decreased by 28.65% and 3.77%, equivalent to 1.1 million tons, worth $ 321.2 million. Imports from Hong Kong (China) and the United States both increased in volume and value, including US imports increased sharply, 2.8 times in volume and 3.6 times in value. .

In addition, scrap steel is also imported from other markets such as Singapore, Chile, Canada, England, Cambodia, Holland …

In general, the amount of iron scrap imported in the past nine months from the markets has grown, accounting for 58.8% and reverse the market with the decrease of only 41.1%.

In particular, import of scrap metal from Cambodia market increased sharply, though only reached 11.3 thousand tons worth $ 2.6 million, but increased more than 7.4 times in volume and more than 10.7 times in value compared with the same period. Average import price was $ 236.5 / tonne – the lowest import price compared to other markets and also one of the main reasons for the increase of imported iron scrap from this market in the recent past. .

In addition to the Cambodian market, imports from the Chilean market were also strong, up 2.9 times in volume and 3 times higher in value, worth 32.8 thousand tons, worth $ 8.3 million. .

Notably, the import of scrap steel in the past 9 months has added Ireland and Mexico with the import of 1 thousand tons and 335 tons, respectively.
